We’re Landon and Sam, the founders of Omorie Matcha! Long-time coffee-turned-matcha drinkers… loving matcha for its smoother caffeine hit compared to the wild jitters we used to have from coffee, and for how well it pairs with so many flavours! We have backgrounds in food technology and Chinese manufacturing and buying.
In 2024, on a trip to China, we noticed how great the quality of Chinese matcha was—and that China was the birthplace of matcha, not Japan—which got us thinking further.
We began working with a tea grower in China’s Zhejiang province (the Uji, Kyoto, growing equivalent of Japan), supplying cafes in New Zealand, followed by expanding into LA and NYC. Fast-forward until now…

The matcha industry started taking off—with huge growth in demand, shortages, and price hikes from Japan.
