A note from the founders

Hello from Landon and Sam, the American and Kiwi duo who founded Omorie Matcha. Long time coffee drinkers, we turned to matcha for its smoother and longer lasting lift compared to coffee (without the crash).

As the popularity of matcha exploded, we built a matcha business specifically designed for cafes. Between us and our team, we combined experience across Asian sourcing, distribution, and product development to create the foundations for our matcha business which now supplies cafes all across the US.

From Japan to China

As Japanese matcha demand surged, we started to see the cracks in the Japanese matcha supply chain. Even great suppliers couldn’t keep up. Lead times stretched, prices increased, allocations tightened, and consistency became hard to guarantee. In response, we began our search for alternative partners who could meet cafe demand without compromising on quality.

The search took us to Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese tea plantations and we were amazed at what we saw in Zhejiang Province, China. The scale, processing capability, and quality spoke for itself. We quickly realized that this wasn’t a backup plan, it was the future we wanted to build around.

Focus on cafe product quality

A lot of brands have been quietly blending cheaper matcha to stretch supply. We’ve chosen a different approach: complete product transparency. We source high-quality matcha as our only product, and we ensure that our matcha stands on its own. That means consistent color, clean taste, and a texture that performs well in high-volume café workflows (lattes, iced drinks, and traditional preparation).

Where we go from here

The Japanese matcha shortage isn’t a short-term hiccup, it’s structural. It will take years for production to catch up as new tea plants mature. While that plays out, we’ll keep supplying our high-quality, ceremonial grade Chinese matcha that cafes can rely on so customers don’t have to miss their daily ritual.

Our mission is simple: show the world how good Chinese matcha can be. After all, China is the birthplace of matcha.
